Rustic Console DIY

It's been a while since I last posted, but I wanted to share this fun console/bookshelf DIY that my husband and I just finished. We found the step by step tutorial on Anna White's site here:

Ana-white.com

It took a couple of weekends to finalize but we are really happy with the end result!

Easter Sunday when we first started the project. I was spying on my dad and C through the blinds. This was also about an hour before C put the power drill through his hand. Good thing his wife didn't pass out while trying to put pressure on the gaping hole in his hand...or did she?

Here we (I use this pronoun loosely) are working on getting it all screwed together. We bought this new tool called a Kreg Jig, that helped to hide all the screw holes.

This is after the first coat of stain. We added another coat and then coated with Minwax Sealer and Varathane Red Mahogany stain.

We added some fun hardware to the corners to make it look a little more professional.

We finally have a place for all of our books! We have had them in boxes since we moved in (over a year ago...), so I was so excited to get them out and organized. Email me if you have any questions, but this was a great beginner project!

Honeymoon Recap

Warning! This is a pic heavy post. I wanted to give a recap on our amazing honeymoon, but figured that the photos tell the best story. We stayed at the Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The hotel was all inclusive which proved to be a nice break after all the wedding planning.  Enjoy the pictures.

snorkling excursion

free kayak rentals were a fun addition

We thought our waiter looked like obama

Our favorite drinks called the "coco loco" similar to a pina colada

Most of our time was spent beachside with a good book.

the lobby was so beautiful!

We did an excursion "safari" where we rode in this open air vehicle and toured punta cana.

The water was so warm!

Italian dinner night. We splurged on a bottle of wine (the wine included in the "all inclusive" package left much to be desired)
