Kauai in 7

I wanted to share a bit about our Kauai trip, but I was having trouble compressing the amazing week into a few words, so I decided to let these 7 photos speak for themselves. We had an amazing time, and have the tan lines to show for it.

A wee bit windy and a wee bit blurry, this was right when we got to our condo, and got to check out the view from the balcony-see pic below. We stayed at the Wyndham Shearwater thanks to my awesome parents, and the accommodations were beyond our expectations.

My brother arrived from New York!

My favorite beach of the trip, "Tunnels." The hubby later informed me that this was the beach where Bethany Hamilton lost her arm. I'm glad he told me after we finished snorkeling...

Cocktails at the St. Regis, definitely a highlight of the trip!

My husband took this amazing photo from the balcony of the St. Regis Princeville

The husband with his catch from our fishing trip (it made delicious Poke)

We also did an awesome tubing adventure that you can't miss if you venture to Kauai anytime soon!

Happy Weekend!

We are homeowners!

I'm still waiting for life to slow down so I can start blogging again, but I'm beginning to think that's never going to happen, so I'm going to try to post when I can!

We finally bought a house about 2 months ago, and it has been taking up all of our time (and money)! The house definitely needed work, so we have been non-stop remodeling. So far we have put in bamboo flooring and new carpet, installed new appliances, repainted every wall, as well as re-done all electric outlets and put in new baseboards. Like I said, life has been nuts! But we are loving every minute of it.

I wanted to keep track of the before and after pictures, so I'm going to post as we make progress.

Right after closing escrow, our new roof is being installed.

Installing the Bamboo flooring. I've never been so tired and sore in my life.

Living room view taken standing in the dining room. Before (left)-lovely parquet flooring, and blue walls/carpet.  After (right)

I will share more as we make more progress, and get things organized!

Happy Saturday,

Rustic Console DIY

It's been a while since I last posted, but I wanted to share this fun console/bookshelf DIY that my husband and I just finished. We found the step by step tutorial on Anna White's site here:

It took a couple of weekends to finalize but we are really happy with the end result!

Easter Sunday when we first started the project. I was spying on my dad and C through the blinds. This was also about an hour before C put the power drill through his hand. Good thing his wife didn't pass out while trying to put pressure on the gaping hole in his hand...or did she?

Here we (I use this pronoun loosely) are working on getting it all screwed together. We bought this new tool called a Kreg Jig, that helped to hide all the screw holes.

This is after the first coat of stain. We added another coat and then coated with Minwax Sealer and Varathane Red Mahogany stain.

We added some fun hardware to the corners to make it look a little more professional.

We finally have a place for all of our books! We have had them in boxes since we moved in (over a year ago...), so I was so excited to get them out and organized. Email me if you have any questions, but this was a great beginner project!
